The Toronto Blue Jays have rewarded outfielder Adam Lind with a four-year contract worth $18 million.
Lind really came into his own last season when he became Toronto’s top offensive player after being somewhat of a disappointment the previous year.
His defense is still questionable, but the young outfielder has a lot of potential and the Blue Jays didn’t want to let him get away.
When you think about it, four years for $18 million is still a real bargain if Lind can continue to produce the same type of numbers he put up last season.
The Blue Jays just have to hope this doesn’t turn into the Alex Rios situation, who really disappointed and never lived up to his huge contract.

Toronto opening day starter Shaun Marcum was flirting with history. Through 6 1/3 innings, he had a no-hitter going. Forget the fact that he hadn’t thrown a pitch during the entire 2009 season; this would have been historic for anyone.
But it wasn’t to be. Instead, Marcum surrendered a walk, a bloop and a blast, and just like that a 3-0 lead was gone. And while the offense gave the pitching staff another lead to work with, closer Jason Frasor couldn’t make it stand up in a 5-4 loss to the Texas Rangers.
Marcum shined after Vernon Wells staked him to an early lead with a two-run jack in the first inning. Wells came through again in the 8th when, in a tie game, he hit an RBI single to regain the lead. Wells, who hails from Arlington, Tx., went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and is off to a promising start after an absysmal 2009 season in which he hit .260.
Marcum gave up the three runs on just two hits and a walk. But when those occurred in consecutive order, it spelled disaster. Still, it was Frasor who was tagged with the loss after recording just a single out while allowing four hits in the 9th.

Toronto locked up outfielder Adam Lind, signing him to a four-year contract extension worth $18 million. The deal includes three additional club option years.
Lind, 26, is coming off a career season in which he batted .305 with 35 home runs and 114 RBI.
It’s widely thought that the Blue Jays got Lind signed at a bargain price. He teams with Aaron Hill to form the cornerstones of the new-look franchise under first-year general manager Alex Anthopoulos.
Lind is a career .287 hitter.
